Our Philosophy

We are a full service veterinary hospital and offer surgical, medical, dental and pharmaceutical treatments of companion animals including dogs, cats, ferrets, hamsters, rabbits, gerbils, mice and rats.

We believe in treating pets as members of the family. We realize how important they are to you. To that extent we believe in working up our cases completely to arrive at a definitive diagnosis. We don't believe the old school philosophy of "a shot and a pill" serves either the patient or the owner well.

We are strong believers in preventive medicine. Annual examinations are a big part of our preventive arsenal. Also included are geriatric work ups, pre-anesthetic blood work prior to any sedation or general anesthesia, and yearly blood work for older pets and pets on long term medications such as anti-seizure or thyroid medication.

We are also strong believers in pain relief. Until fairly recently, pain relief was not considered necessary except for major surgeries like fracture repair or open chest procedures. People thought that since animals didn't act painful, they weren't in pain. Stress hormone research has shown that to be false. Therefore, no patient will undergo a surgery or painful procedure without the benefit of pain medication.


Boarding Philosophy

When I was younger and we had to board our dog, we used to say we were dropping him off at jail. The kennels were small, dark, drafty, and smelly, the paint was peeling, and the dogs stayed in their cages 24 hours a day. We hated to do it but it was our only option. Our new facility will give you the option to leave your pets in a state of the art, comfortable, clean, camp-like atmosphere. There will be the option of twice daily exercise and pool time for our water loving guests. Our goal is to have your dogs wagging their tails and straining on their leashes to get in when you drop them off. Doggy day care will be offered at reduced weekly and monthly rates for those of you who can't stand to leave your pet home alone while you are at work.

We know how stressed cats get when they are taken from their familiar surroundings. Our large, quiet cat condos will help alleviate some of that stress. The cat boarding room will be separate from the dogs and will have a window to the outside. A fish tank will provide visual stimulation.

A groomer is available to bathe and clip your pets while they are staying with us.
